INFORMATION ON JOB

QUALIFICATIONS

These varied depending on which country (and in the case of the USA, which State you were in). I was unable to find qualification requirements for a Forensic Pathologist in Singapore. However, in the State of California, a Forensic Pathologist must have to have a medical degree and must have a licence from the State to is practice as a doctor and as a surgeon. Also, a Forensic Pathologist needs to be have a special certificate or be eligible to be certified to practice in the field of forensic pathology.

EXPERIENCE

Most online job ads required 4-5 years previous working experience.

LONG-TERM PROSPECTS

One can do purely autopsies in the mortuary, where one would dissect the bodies, takes samples, have them sent to be tested and write reports on the cause of death. One could also simply work in a laboratory. If a person does not want to be doing autopsies in a hospital, one could also teach as a university lecturer in a Department of Pathology, or in the medical department. One can also become a regular doctor or surgeon since one has a medical degree and a surgeon's degree.

Career Information

I want to be a Forensic Pathologist when i grow up.
These are the reasons why.

1) I got inspired from watching CSI on television. I became so obsessed with it that i made my father record all the episodes because it was shown past my bed time. I found it so interesting how the guy/women would cut open the body to examine it and say so easily "This guy had a stroke ." I know its obviously not that easy but it's still interesting.

I seem to be contradicting myself as i said once that people should not judge something in real life based on a television show but i cant help it! CSI just makes the occupation seem so fun!

2) I want to help people. I remember that when my grand-uncle passed away, my family was so shocked! they did not know why because he looked like such a healthy man. Some people even thought he may have been poisoned because he was a priest so maybe a terrorist or something like that did not like him being a Christian. However, when the report came out, it showed he had died as a result of a heart attack. I could tell that once my family knew how he died it was sort of like closure for them. Can you imagine not knowing how a loved one died? You would probably wonder your whole life. If a person was murdered, I would be able to discover vital clues in finding the murderer. It's nice to know that you have a very important job.

3)I find it very fascinating and intriguing that the dead can talk and tells us things which would otherwise escape us.

HISTORICAL ORIGINS

At first, physicians and surgeons took the role of pathologists. It wasn't
till around the early 1800s that it was decided to have full time pathologists as physicians and surgeons discovered that it was too much to handle above all the patients. Physicians and surgeons therefore began to train young students, focusing on pathology and pathologists were born!

COMMENTS ON THE VIDEO

I found the video very interesting
Because I am not Singaporean, it is hard for me to relate to this matter.

But,from what i can tell , most if my Singaporean friends would like to migrate to the US or England.

At this age , most of us only use the media to judge a country. Because of the pretty picture the US paints itself to be (Shows like "American Idol" makes American look very hip and fun), i find that we actually have very little knowledge about the country.

If a Chinese person goes to America, he may go there thinking that the people are outgoing and fun. But does he know that racism is a huge problem in the US? Not to mention the fact that going out alone at night or even in the day, is dangerous because of the crime rate?

The answer is most likely no.

I think that if a person wants to migrate, go ahead. But do lots of research and if you still want to go, go. More experience never harms but I'm sure that once there, you will find that Singapore is much safer and cleaner. Also, it is always better to be in your own country because you get to enjoy all the benefits that a citizen may have.

What the government is doing know is good. There's a website that keeps in touch with Singaporeans overseas. This keeps the Singaporeans overseas near because they know they are not forgotten. Social studies and history lessons are also great because it helps the younger generations discover the journey that Singapore has been and is still going though.

Personally, when i grow up i hope to return to England. I know its not exactly the nicest or safest place(not to mention the 17% GST)but i still feel that its my home.
